Some engagement pics on blog Can't Post

9 pics from our latest engagement pics in Albany, NY. Couple was amazing and gave us so much to work with.
We ended up delivering 80 proofs from the 170 we narrowed down as keepers (I know we're nutty) but they were into it and we loved the experience. Location was Empire State Plaza behind the Capital Building.

Great stuff, Brian. You and Jenn have made the change over to the photography side look so easy ... and we know it isn't. Nice lighting, framing and poses. Your video productions have always been top notch. Now you've got the photography to match. Congrats!

I like them all. They all look great! There's only one thing I can think of that could be said in correction, and that's the lack of catch lights in picture #1. The eyes aren't sparkling. If your strobe has a white card just use that and point the head into the sky. It won't affect exposure.

Thanks for sharing Brian. Nice pictures!

Brian ... I was wondering about the shot that Darren posted. What was your settings and how did you use your flash ... if at all?

I'm trying to break it down in my head...use shutter speed to achieve proper exposure of the light and background (constant light sources) - use a flash (in manual mode) to pop the proper amount of light at the couple (temporary light). Use aperature to control DOF?

Flash doesn't care about shutter speed, so shutter speed does not affect couple...only constant light sources.
Aperature is used to control light coming in, so can help regulate flash strength of temporary source.
Flash strength is used in combination with aperature for proper main subject exposure...

I don't see any shadows, though, so either the shadows fall EXACTLY behind them or some other trick was used (low angle flash to go even with the ground? lots of work...) Or just not enough to really cast a shadow with the street light closer to the shadow side.

Just got back from a mini-vacation and one of first things I do is check VU....
J&B, your shots have gotten better and better...(not that your firsts were bad...) these here are beautiful. How much is edited vs straight from the camera? You must be doing your homework because it really shows. Skin tones, composition, layout.... It's all good

Keep on posting.... your shots are very inspiring.
