Lots of people ask me that question, so don't feel bad. You could imitate the effect in photoshop but a digital blu never looks as good as an out of focus portion of your image through the lens. If you have lights in the background that are out of focus, they look much much different when shot with a lens or blurred in photoshop. By doing it through a lens, I think it has much more appeal as you get away from the digital look. The other thing is that, when you look at picture number 5 you can see that some foreground elements are in focus and some background elements are in focus yet there is a lot in between that is out of focus. That s because I had the tilt-shift set so that theplane of focus was further away at the top and closer at the bottom. It would be nearly impossible to recreate an image like that in post. Lastly, the natural gradation from in focus to out of focus is very tough to recreate as well, especially when the focus is changing all over the place when you have an image with a lot of layers. Hope that helps- and makes sense. Patrick
