Sony DSC-R1 Can't Post

The R1 looks mighty impressive especially at it's $999 price point. Anyone ever use a non-DSLR to shoot events? I'd think the biggest limiting factor would be the available flashes for it (or lack there of).

I used Point & Shoots for the video only stuff. I like the change of pace a still offers, and the images can look realy good at times.

For use in candid stuff (aka except for photo sessions), their limitation isn't the flash... heck, this Sony model may even have options for external flashes. Again, this isn't considering shooting photo sessions.

The bigger limitation is in the absence of a quality zoom or wide angle when needed.

Granted it's no 70-200 but it's got an equivalent 24-120 which is actually a pretty good range for events. Image quality was unmatched in it's class Shocked

I live by the Wide Angle and 70-200mm when hired as a photog though.

Believe me, I think P&S's are great.... but they have limits.

Looks like a nice camera but you can pick up a Nikon D50 w/ 28-80mm lens for $600.

Wow. Shocked While the 28-80 probably won't match the quality of the Ziess glass that's one heck of a bang for the buck especially considering it's a bonified SLR!

Kinda looks like a rounder, black version of one of those Hasselblad H1's or H2 that doesnt leave you asking the question, "Hmmmm.....H2 or airplane......, airplane or H2.......
Check the price of an H2 w the digital back and you'll understand.

With a Zeiss wide to tele lens like that, I hope they have gotten any barrel or pincushion distortion down to a bareassed minimum. Nothing more annoying than straight lines that aren't reproduced straight.
