Storm, Sparky - anyone shooting for another studio... Can't Post

Got a question for you...

Did you sign some type of agreement with the studio allowing you to use the images as the shooter? Or are you forbidden from displaying those sample with all rights lost?

For example, I'd like to offer my assistance to a photographer - mainly to shadow him. Should I negotiate some type of written agreement that states I may use my images as samples, for example stating "Jenn Moak assisting, John Doe Photography Studio"?

If so, did you write it, or did they provide you with one?

Any advice in this arena is greatly appreciated b/c frankly, as excited as I am to get out and shoot some stuff, I also don't have time to waste and get screwed.

My idea is to shadow a photographer, upload the images to a Flashtrax for my keeping and hand the cards over to the photog at the end of the night. Is this unreasonable or realistic?

I was allowed to shawdo another photographer last year. We did it with a verbal agreement, but I highly suggest writing something out. Without any written agreement you will own your images.

In my case I was allowed to use the images on my site in the manner that you wrote ... SBP for MR photography. I even put together a couple of sample albums, but I did not give credit in those.

This is one of those individual things that you just have to work out. Some will let you shoot for experience but not use them to build a portfolio.

At the very least ... I think you could possibly find one of your better looking couples (from your video), pay for tux rental and cleaning and then ask to do a bridal shoot with them. I realize that doesn't give you experience in a wedding situation, but it would give you some images that don't have another photographers name on them.

I just got all mine changed out and it's such a huge relief not to have another photographers name on my photos because that was usually one of the first questions I had to deal with. I should add that even though I was asked about my photos being from another wedding ... they booked me anyway.

Jenn, He gives me the memory cards, backdrop, studio light, cords, posing stools (2) and a back up Rebel XT. I shoot the wedding and then go home. I'm allowed to copy the images to my computer and play with them myself. A few days later I run the cards and everything else up to his studio. At the end of the month he sends me a check for whatever work I did for him. Now I would not try to selll the images to the couple or their families but I am allowed to display the images as my own here at my home and on the web. Thats our agreement and so far it's working. He is the one who wants he and I to open a studio together towards Chciago so he must be liking the agreement too.
