Surprise...shooting today Can't Post

Woke up at 7:30, checked the email then the voicemail. There's voicemail from a bride getting married today at 3pm. She needs a photog. Seen my website. Basically begged me to shoot. Not sure if she had a photog already and it fell apart or she just forgot to hire one; didn't go there. Seems kinda strange though. Talking a mile-a-minute she seemed rather scattered. Maybe they pissed a photog off and he/she bounced last minute, dunno. Doesn't matter, it's my job now.

This would NEVER happen with wedding video in a million years. I went from virtually no business to more business than I can handle. Huge demand for photography; virtually zero demand for videography. Same geographic location. Primetime in 2008 is almost already all booked. Sooooo glad wedding video is to my back!

Poor girl. Her classy husband called and canceled the shoot ninety minutes before her ceremony. "There's no way I'm paying $X for pictures, so you might as well forget it!!!" Boy did she pick a winner. Crying her eyes out on the phone. I feel bad for her. But at least I can visit the pub earlier than expected. Laugh

....canceled the shoot ninety minutes before her ceremony....

And what were you saying about no demand for video??? At least I shot a wedding today.Laugh And it was one of my big spenders....$1300usd. 9.5 hour work day...catholic ceremony, long Viet Namese reception, fully edited long form version, cinematic highlights, online hosting of highlights on private webpage, 7 copies on DVD with menu/custom cases/full color custom surface printing, etc. It will probably take me about 2 weeks to finish...got twice as much footage as normal. I make the big money....that's how I roll. Laugh

Haven't slept in 2 days...I shot today's bride's brother's wedding a few weeks ago, and wanted to have their DVD's ready to deliver at the reception tonight...didn't finish in time. So they're coming to pick them up today/Sunday....it's 4:30am....I'm still burning DVD's. I got like a whopping $700 for their wedding...same package as above.

Working with my favorite coordinator tonight, who actually went into the coord business after I shot her friend's wedding about 3 years ago...she finally says,"you don't make any money doing this, do you?" Laugh HELLO, you're the one that negotiated the prices on these two gigs for me!!! LaughLaugh

I was fortunate enough to scrounge up enough bread to pick up a 12-pack of Bud on the way home. At least now the horrible pain in my feet is numb. Laugh

What do you think of this?

You velcro it to the LCD.

Recently I was taking some pics out in the sun. From

what I could tell during the shoot they looked okay

but, later back at the studio, I was surprised to see the

exposure was way off. So I'm wondering if this

bellows device might help out.

Is that maybe just for P&S cams without a viewfinder, or does it smuch flat enough (it says 1/2") between each shot so you can still get your eye against the viewfinder? Looks like one of those things that I'd buy, use once, then chunk in that box under my bed that holds every gadget in the B&H catalog. Laugh

When shooting outside with my digital camera in the Sun, I had a harder time actually seeing the meter readings INSIDE the viewfinder! AS for the LCD, I know what you mean. I found myself just shading it with my left hand, and leaving the histogram thingy on sometimes.

Maybe you should call the local TV news station and the cops. Sounds like some turbulance might be brewing.

Hope dvd delivery went ok.

Learned today my couple canceled the whole damn wedding. Unbelievable. The groom was a real piece-o-work. Feel so sorry for that girl, but she's not too bright picking someone like him. Why do so many ultra-gorgeous women end up with big time losers? Nevermind Laugh

Glad you numbed your feet Laugh but I can't even think about beer today. Hot-tub party last night until 6am and have been a wee bit hung over all day. Spend a few hours on a boat with Mom for mom's day. A bloody boat is the *last* place I needed to be. Pirate

It would probably work but not sure how much it would get in the way. I just shade with my hand and look at the histogram for exposure.

I'm also still thinking about this loupe instead if that bellows sunshade:

Anyone have any opinions on this? If you look at the couple

B&H reviews the reviewers did say that it worked well.
