Thinking of switchinh to photo. Can't Post

I will stop shooting video next year, for a few different reasons, and am thinking about taking jobs for photography. I get more calls for photo than video. How about some good resources to bring me up to speed on the finer points of wedding photography?

If you have already been videotaping weddings then you are ahead of the game in learning how to photograph a wedding. You will start out with an edge because you already know what to look for and what the bride wants. I created some relationships with other photographers around here and joined the local guild. Maybe find a photographer who is looking for a second shooter. I have done this and it is great experience.

Hey Perry

Can you start doing a wedding as a second shooter or perhaps going incognito on craigslist to do one for free? I've done years of videos which helped a lot but photo is a different game at times and having done a few before my first "real" wedding really helped get the bugs out.

There's different things technically with photo gear that we don't have to worry about when shooting with video, so that was the main thing I found, and of course learning poses and figuring out a style and pricing.

See if you can network with another photographer, even if outside of your area (no threat of competition) and shadow as a second photographer for free even. The time spent will be very valuable for you.

Good luck with it all! Congratulations on your new venture and let us know how it all goes.
