Not to give away any trade secrets.... but what was the one best tip that you came away with from the workshop?

Great stuff again...

Those are really really nice!
I love the first one the best, that's the one with the blue scarf. Really pretty and the composition is perfect.

Glad you had fun on the shoot!

Thanks,,, one more thing that I came away with... step away from the subject.. try to get away from "backyard" photos... give the viewer a feel for where you are, not always just a shallow depth of field blurry background (hence, backyard photo, could be taken anywhere)

This is really good advice. I've noticed this as well with trial and error on my part. A lot of the photos of the first dance I like best are wide shots. The close up ones are nice too but really, they could be dancing anywhere in those shots.

Nice, a few I would throw out, but some bar easily
with what I see in bride mags. Nice.

3,4,5 12,14,15,18,
19,21,22 These I would spend money on.

One thing to note here, if I was looking to use
stuff in my magazine, I would use the same pics.
That is the hometown mid-west girl talking.

Some of these the only issue was simply that
the pic was too dark to begin with, I want to
see faces and so will your clients. I would
throw out the pic with her holding on the
sconce, that was just too boddish, or what
ever the correct term is.

The smile was awesome and the pic that wins
for dress detail is 5. I love this shot. Remember
just like video, you have to have a balance of
edgy, fun and documentary. That I truly believe
is the best way to please the client.

I thought you did a great job, I saw the others too.

Re: [Laura K] Updated images from photoshoot [In reply to] Can't Post

Laura, Thanks for the critique. I honestly do not believe that very many, if any, brides in my market would purchase any of those shots other maybe 1 or 2. They are meant to be edgy and fashionable. The photographer who put on the workshop travels around the world doing destinations and even he says only a very minute number of brides choose him just because of his style. He says he only does 10 or 15 weddings a year. He also stated he could use more business. I think what I got out of this workshop was not a style that is marketable and will bring me more clients, but more how to look at light and angles in a different way. Thanks again, I really appreciate your honesty.

Interesting. I would think that his style would be the main
reason they would choose him. Did he happen to let on
what are the reasons they choose him for their
destination weddings?

Re: [Brackish] Updated images from photoshoot [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, maybe you misunderstood me... his style IS the reason they hire him... but this style does not appeal to a wide variety of brides. It is a bit over the top, more edgy, more fashion. Because it is such a unique style, and he does not shoot any other style, a bride who is looking for more traditional images is not going to pursue him. On the other hand, a higher end bride who is willing to pay top dollar for such unique images, will. My comment was that I do not believe I have much of a market here in Chattanooga for these type of images but the concepts of creation and still be applied to traditional images.
