...Flash photography is tough and in all different kinds of situations, you would have to have a ton of experience. You know, I just got another DSLR, but this time I couldn't afford the high-end FL-50 Olympus flash, so I bought the cheaper FL-36. Turns out is sucks...it only holds 2 AA batteries so it has long re-charge times. I guess that's why it's a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. So, I've been using my Sunpak 383 manual flash, which is awesome. Obviously you can't use the TTL exposure of the camera to automatically set the flash, but it forces you to learn how to use a flash properly, and the results are worth it. I'll probably eBay the brand new FL-36 TTL flash, and keep using the big ugly manual 383 Sunpak. Even amateur "estimations" like mine are better at exposing what you "envision" in your head better than the camera, resulting in more keepers.
