Well, that wasn't very fun Can't Post

Did a wedding yesterday (basic post-ceremony/photo session - the reception is this evening). I took my still camera along with for some cover art and their photographer cancelled yesterday due to an emergency (it was a friend, so she sent her apprentice). I tried to take extra stills during everything along with the video.

First problem, the video camera's autofocus was way out of whack...when they started it refused to adjust to anything. It locked onto the background and STAYED that way, even after zooming in on the faces. I could see crystal clear leaves in the very corner of the image around the huge blurry head in the middle. So, I had to ride the manual focus for a lot of it.

Too much to keep track of trying photos and video. The photo sessions were so fast paced (and it was hot - about 85, which isn't too bad, but probably close to 90% humidity - everyone was dripping) that I missed a few good video shots, and stills were from the perspective of the video camera, not the main camera, so a lot of shots from the side. It might be nice to have a wedding with just photography instead.

I don't think I will offer both services at a wedding.

It seems like you'd need to have at least two persons
to offer both photo and video.

It would never be the slightest consideration.

I agree.. I don't think it would be possible for me to shoot video and photo in the same day.

You need to had infinite confidence in your co-shooters, and at least a team of three total (one to handle issues while the others shoot on).

For normal days with no issues, it is not a problem and great to work still images into video or narrative into slideshow. But, when anything goes awry, it is exponentially more stressful. For me, it is the audio issues that I fear most. I am still the only soundman that I trust.
