Yeah, it's pretty much a whole separate photo shoot...on location...just like the engagement shoot. The groom, obviously, is not invited since he's not supposed to see the bride in her dress until the wedding. An enlargement of the bridal shoot is blown up, put in an expensive frame, and put on an easel next to the sign-in table at the reception. A montage of smaller framed engagement pics is often put ON the sign-in table, along with one of those engagement pics that everyone signs with a marker. I'd think the bridal and engagement photo sessions are what would really make wedding photography a very busy profession...and if you're cheap and inlcude them in your low package prices, it would make it worse than video. For example, I don't even offer "love story" videos, or anything like that, anymore. Unless you're charging a very profitable price, they're just a drain on time.
