What is "the bridal shoot"? Can't Post

Hope this isn't a dumb question but ...

In another forum someone talked about taking some
pics during "the bridal shoot" for display at the reception.
This is apparently different from "the engagement shoot".

Are all of you offering this or planning to offer this?

Just pictures of the bride in her dress. Don't they usually have a big enlargement of a bridal shoot pic at your receptions, next to the sign-in table? The bridal pics are also useful as dart boards after the divorce.Laugh

Yeah, it's pretty much a whole separate photo shoot...on location...just like the engagement shoot. The groom, obviously, is not invited since he's not supposed to see the bride in her dress until the wedding. An enlargement of the bridal shoot is blown up, put in an expensive frame, and put on an easel next to the sign-in table at the reception. A montage of smaller framed engagement pics is often put ON the sign-in table, along with one of those engagement pics that everyone signs with a marker.

I'd think the bridal and engagement photo sessions are what would really make wedding photography a very busy profession...and if you're cheap and inlcude them in your low package prices, it would make it worse than video. For example, I don't even offer "love story" videos, or anything like that, anymore. Unless you're charging a very profitable price, they're just a drain on time.

See, I have no interest in getting into engagement shoots. I don't
understand what Jenn and some others find so appealing about
them. My apologies to the OP (original poster) if this is going
off topic Wink but I see some problems with the engagement shoot.
You have to drive quite some distance most likely. You will
be out of the studio for quite some time which is taking you away
from pressing video editing work, throwing you further behind.
And the groom hates being there (from what I gather) so you
are taking images of a subject who hates you for it.
I don't think you can charge much for them so any money
you make on the day out of the studio and the couple
days in editing is probably offset by the loss of productivity
in the video editing suite.

Apologies again to the OP Laugh ...
But, you know what another regional difference is? I believe
you (or someone) have talked about covering the
"reception departure". Not one single time have my
couples planned anything for the departure. I think they
just stumble to their hotel room.

The only thing I have seen the "engagement shoot" for is to get a good photo to put on the invitations or something. I have seen more extensive ones (at more lavish weddings) where they have 6 foot high multiframed montages of the engagement pictures, but not often.

Is that about all they do with the engagement pics? Put them on
the invitations? I guess they maybe send them to the
newspaper with the announcement.

I just happened to be lurking at a photog forum and a wedding
photog said that he'll often spend a whole day with the couple
at their ceremony site, taking the engagement pics and
doing the consultation and "walk through". (If he spends
a whole day in "consultation" I would guess he's not
a budget guy.) He says he does a walk through with the
couple of what the wedding day will be like. He said this
helps the couple to have a more realistic expectation
of the time things take, so that they don't try to cram in
too much.

Anyone here do a "walk through" with their clients at the
ceremony venue? I've never heard of this.

The bridal shoot and engagement shoot are wonder ways to develop a rapport with your couple. The way things work around here you almost always become friends with your customers. The only real business that transpires is booking and payment, the rest of the ordeal is on a very personal and friendly level.

Here's one from a brief bridal shoot on the weekend. Perfectly clear skys suck, at least when shooting time very short.

Yes she's very gorgeous. She's also the nicest person I've ever known next to my Sister. Her speaking voice is prettier than Norah Jones' singing voice. In fact, the only thing wrong with Sabine is she's bloody married :)

Yes I think so Brack. I used it much all day, along with the 50 (my new fav next to the 200/2). Can't really remember tho. Will look it up later.

Have you ever considered putting that shot in landscape mode? Sly
