What to charge? Can't Post

I arrived at the church for yesterdays wedding and there was the church choir all decked out on tuxes getting ready for a group photo. We were busy setting up when the leader of the choir asked me if I could take a photo of them if the photog did not show up. I said yes I could and a while later, when the photog never showed up, I ended up taking a few group shots... They want the photo for a program print... So, not sure what to charge. I was thinking maybe $50 or $100 for my time.

Sounds reasonable for what it was.

For $100 I would give them rights to print it as well, and give them a good quality image. I had a photographer that would sell me the raw image and full rez JPG for $75/per digital negative after the original on-site fee.

I probably would have done that for free if I was there anyway, just give the file on a disk and say have fun.

It wouldn't cost anything or take much time to do this, and it would be good PR for you.

I don't take a piss without getting paid Cool (immortal words of the writer clip on You Tube) Seriously, I think the PR thing would go nowhere in this regard. They had hired a photographer who did not show up, they were going to pay him.. I think my fee was nominal and it took away time from the job I was already on.. and besides, he had no problem paying the $100. When I got home, I uploaded the photos, color and exposed corrected the photos, converted to b&w as requested... created a package of proofs to email to him... waited for his approval, resent a proof of the selected photo, then once finally corrected based on his request, sent the image in full resolution to his email for print to publication...

Not a ton of work, but easily a couple of hours of my time...

Once I asked a plumber if he would come and work on my pipes for free because the other plumber never showed up, I told him I would tell all my friends about him..... he declined! Cool

Oh, ok, sounds like more work than I what I figured from the post.
Yeah, I'd charge something for the time too. I thought you just took a picture of the choir while you were there shooting a wedding.
I should probably read the posts better befor replying. Wink

Well, that may not be exactly true in my case, but I am certainly leaning in that direction.
