Will the 20D be good enough to offer as my Prime still photography camera? Can't Post

I'm planning on offering still photography later this year in addition to the Videography I already do and would like to know if the 20D will be good enough to be my prime camera or should I be looking at the next one up? How big will I be able to blow up the images on the 20D before the pixelation begins?

16" x 20" ok for the 20D?

Also, with the camera set on "best quality", how many and how big of flash media will I need to be able to cover an entire Wedding event?

Yes- more than enough. You can even go LARGER prints if need be. There are programs like Genuine Fractals that is an upsizing algorithm that utilizes very clean interpolation.

Thanks Glen! What brand, type and how many of these would I need to cover an event properly?

compact flash cards are used. a 512mb card in my rebel gets approx 122 pics, so a 512 in the 20d will get 100 pics approx.

40x is the norm nowadays for write speed and 48x seems to be the average for reading speed.
anything name brand will be good, kingston is the brand of my 2 cards i have.

boss uses kingston, transcend and 2 generic 1 gig cards now.

also if a laptop is to much for you to bring on a job to backup your photos as you switch cards.. look into buying the ipod photo OR FLASHTRAX, it won the photo east expo award 2 years ago when introduced and its a 20 gig hd, mac/pc compatible, built in compact flash card reader.... 3 in screen. he loves it. You keep the smalldevice in your bag and backup your pics on that and no where near as cumbersome as a laptop.

usb2.0 to transferfrom the flashtrax to you comp.

Hhmmm, wonder if I could load some pic's onto my 20 gig iRiver? Even when I record the entire ceremony it only takes up about 1.5 gigs which would leave me plenty of room.

How's this for a price for the 20D kit? This is the same place I bought my last VX2100 and everything was very good with them in that instance.

http://www.butterflyphoto.com/...amp;sku=EOS20DW18-55

I notice they don't offer the 580ex flashUnsure Only up to the 550ex.

a 6.3mp slr camwill give you a 16x20 with great results, upclose you'll notice some artifcating.
a 8mp cam like the d20 will give you a 20x24 of great quality.

if your iRiver can take the compact flash cards then sure why not?

ALSO stay away from MICRODRIVES!!! They are quite slow compared to compact flash cards and they have moving parts!!! so when they breaklike a hard drive it is even more expensie to recover data from the md.

No such luck. It would have to come in via a usb2.0 cable to the iRiver.

The end going into the iRiver has to be the 4 pin. The other end could be full flat I guess. Does the camera have usb out?

It wouldn't work even if there was a USB 2.0 port. The iRiver transfers data via a software interface. If you connected it to the cam the cam would have no idea what the device was or how to send images out to it.

They do have wireless kits now- bring your laptop- turn on 802.11, and your camera can transfer the images wirelessly to the laptop. Very cool but very risky. I'd rather stick with the tried and true solid state memory.

Anyone ever try one of these or know someone that has? It holds 60 GB of data and has it's own power via rechargeable batteries that last 1.5 hours or via the AC adapter. you just stick in your memory card, transfer and then re-use your card. I would think if you had two to three cards total you could be set for the day with one of these. Then when your day is done just transfer to the computer via usb2.0.

Also, so is $1356 a good price for the 20D w/ Canon EF-S 18-55mm Lens?

Thats a fantastic price. I paid $1499 a few weeks ago for my 20D. Now it's down to $1399 at B&H...that price WITH the kit lense is even better.

The price tags there seema bit high.

Circuit City has it for 1439 as i just checked..so maybe it is a good deal.
although other prices are steep..such as the verticle release/battery comaprtment for 200+ bucks? i got mine for 110 @ armatos.

also the lens is sub par...good for outdoor use only I'd say.
Dont get the package with the lens and put the saved cash to buy the tamrom ix 28-75mm 2.8f lens which is my main lens I use and I keep the stock lens as a backup since it is a plastic body and a3.5-5.6f lens that comes as the kit lens.

also buy your extras such as batteries etc from bh, butterflys prices for the media cards is high...

keep in mind I bought for 20 bucks a simple 2.0usb media card reader from transcend @ bestbuy... and works great, no need for 6-1 readers with hd's etc etc etc.

Chris, No I wasn't thinking of buying any of the accessories from them, just the camera. How much is the lens you are talking about and whre can I get it? I'd go CRAZY if I spent all that money on a camera and couldn't play with it when it cameFrown

If it is the tamron 28-75 XR di, we used it for a while and it is a great for the price. Very sharp and virtually no distortion at the edges throughout most of the zoom range. Our biggest complaint was that the motor noise was a little too loud, but we are also using top end Nikon glass so itmay not be a fair comparision. In that price range, I wouldn't suggest anything else.

If you are planning to do weddings I would get the 2 gig sandisk ultra cf cards over the 1 gigs. Don't bother even looking at the 512 meg ones, unless you like switching cards alot.

Lens wise I would get the canon 24 -70 L 2.8 ($1100) and the 70-200 L 2.8 IS ($1680).

So who has the best price on this Tamron lens you mentioned? B&H has it for $389.95 but are they the only reputable place to get this lens?
