Re: [Brackish] advice for a newbie [In reply to] Can't Post

My daughter has a pro-consumer grade SLR. Nothing about it is worth saving to use in pro work. The only positive is that she does have some experience working with manual settings. So...should I just hunt for the best deal?

WHICH ONE? I wouldn't get hung up on which camera to buy at first... I'm sure Darren could use my Nikon D50 with the kit lens and get a better picture then I could with a D2x and some good glass. It's your typical Ford vs Chevy, Mac vs PC, Vegas vs Premiere.... It's all in the hands of the operator... Heck,... I look at some of the clips post on VU from videographers using VX2100 & Vegas 7.... and their work is way beyond the stuff I put out.... I just went with the Nikon brand, because my former neighbor (who is a Professional Photographer, with his own studio... 25+ years in the biz) recommended Nikon..., if he would have said Canon, I'ld have a Rebel XT now. Re: [DarrenS] advice for a newbie [In reply to] Can't Post

By me, Darren, I haven't really paid much attention to what
the photogs were shooting when I had my mind only on
video ... but as I've been thinking about the photo end
more I've started to pay attention to what still cams they're
shooting. It actually has been quite a mixed bag.
A couple Canon 20D/30Ds. A few Canon Rebels - I can think of 3
different photogs using Rebels. A couple Nikon D200s.
A Nikon D50/D70. A Nikon D80. A couple Fujis (S3/S5).
The highest-priced guy I've worked with - gets nearin' on
10 grand - uses Nikon. Not sure of what model cam he uses
but he's got a Nikkor 300 or 400 2.8 that costs about 5Gs!
So, no brand has dominated, that I've noticed.
About equally Canon and Nikon with a few Fujis
thrown in.

By the way, anyone looking for an inexpensive DSLR should check out the VU trading post at the end of each month....that's usually when mine is for sale. Laugh
