ahhh feck Can't Post

Did a photography wedding today. I managed to break:
My 580exII flash - it snapped at the base. (This happened before I took my first photo, thankfully I had a back up flash.)
And the button on my pants which meant that the stupid zipper kept coming down and of course I wore a shirt that sat at the waist.... nice.

Other than that it went ok.
I used the alien beez light at the greenhouse - that light is really great, if anyone is considering getting one.

Bummer about the EXII. Regarding the AlienBees lights, I hadn't heard of them before - what do you like about them? http://alienbees.com/flash.html

I've been fussing with my Canon flashes this week and concluded I'm not thrilled with the performance of the master/slave link. My old Vivitar flash with a cheap optical trigger is more flexible than the expensive Canon flashes in a multi-flash setup - just without the ETTL metering.

I have a 580exII as well as a 430ex, haven't set them up to fire together yet.

This is the bees flash I bought: http://alienbees.com/b800.html I also got a large white/silver umbrella as well as their giant softbox. I like them both.

For the weddings I take along the bees flash which works well in some circumstances, such as doing group photos at a reception hall or dark place. It just lights the area much better than the 580 can. Often it can eliminate shadows depending on the angle I'm shooting at.

The things I like about it over some of the other units that I looked into is the power it puts out, and most importantly the slider bar. It's awesome to be able to slide that down to get a perfect setting. Many of the other flashes have just 1/2 or 1/4 settings but no slider so if the 1/2 is to strong but 1/4 not enough then you physically have to move either the light or your subject to get the right setting.

It has an internal cooling fan which is great too so it won't overheat.
The modelling light is nice, especially for studio work with the softbox.
It's also very light and easy to take up and down and sets up quickly.

In the studio I use it as the main light and the 580 as the fill on an umbrella stand. They work well together, never had problems.
