I was in my film days.... I think it was an F2 base. Dumped it all in the mid 90's.

My only Nikon shoots 24, 18, or 12 frames per second. But...I don't think I've ever actually ran any film through it...too expensive. Tongue I'm anxious however, as it's very well built, as far as they go in the realm of consumer-level Super8 cams. Maybe on my next trip outside. Cool

I have the d50 too. I think it is amazing value for money and good enough for any type of print I might need. The only thing lacking is proper waterproofing that would come in handy in Manchester. The only report I have heard of d50 vs d80 so far was someone who went back to a d50 because it did everything he needed for less money. So long as I don't need to crop excessively, I am not in a rush to move up to 10mp.

Former D2X owner. Now two D200's.

I think Auto ISO makes it the ideal slr for fast-paced weddings. Such an excellent feature.

the d50 was the best bang for the buck for me and a good intro to digital slr coming from film rangefinders. Of course, it was too good and is already out of the line up I believe Frown. I am looking for a new cam for when mine wears out and I might go for the 80 or one that offers wider use of lenses and flashes that the 50 can't meter properly.

The 80 feel more solid... I got the kit lense 18-135 and it feels better then the kit 18-55 that was with the 50.
I did a quick... I mean quick test between the 2 images taken in auto and magnified by 600X, it's hard to tell any difference... I will try to do a more controled test and see if there is a noticeable difference between 6 & 10 mp.
The larger/better screen is a plus... it's amazing what a half inch can do...
LIKE:the flash commander... now I can use my sb600 off of the camera.... but now I'll have to purchase another speedlight to play with the creative lighting that nikon promotes.
LIKE: the grides in the viewfinder (they can be turned on or off.... I like mine ON..)
LIKE: the camera will accept the newer/bigger SD cards. The 50 maxed out with a 2gb card.

Only day 3 with the d80 but my first impression is good. I didn't like having to purchase a "nikon" extra battery. I doesn't accept the stock battery from the D50 nor will it accept off brands. The D80 battery has a chip like the sony batteries... thus it gives you a better reading of battery power/life.

the battery sounds like a pain but I am really into the idea of flash commander. The big fault with the d50, now that I am experimenting with flash, is that I have to buy an sb800 or spend almost as much on all the bits to get other flashes to work that way.

another I like....
being able to have the auto iso and putting limits on how high to go and limits on how slow for shutter speed.

I'm not up on canon or other brands but I think that is a great feature.... I have mine set at iso 800 and 1/60 shutter as the limits in my auto settings

I checked and it's not patented so I don't know why Canon is taking so long to get auto iso. Minolta has it.

D200 here. I looked at the Canon 30D and the D200 and decided that the Nikon was the better camera for the price. The only Canons that I have are my GL2 and GL1 (no longer in use). I might get an A1 for video, but I have committed to Nikon for my still photos. The last two weddings that I shot (video) had Nikon shooters doing the photography. One had two photographers, one with a D200, and one with a Fuji S3 (Nikon compatible). At the other wedding the photographer had two D2Xs, a D2H and a D70.

Just fyi for those that may not know; you can take a D80 battery and use it in a D70. Not sure if that is the case with other model numbers, but I was happy to find that out, as I was about to purchase a second D70 battery until I found that out.

Yes, the EN-EL3e is "backward compatable" ... just can't use you old d70 or d50 batteries in the d80.
