non wedding photography & marketing Can't Post

Hi there

I'm wondering if anyone else offers photography in a capacity other than wedding photography.
If so, what kind of marketing have you found to work well for you?

I have an opportunity to promote pet photography in a large city 'fair' which has agricultural shows, and many booths for clothes, hand crafted items, etc - 100 indoor vendors plus 80 outdoor vendors, it is a 4 day 11 hour each day show. Lots of work!

Anyone have any input on it. Part of me thinks it would be good for animal lovers but the other part of me thinks that the agricultural bunch wouldn't drop much money on pet photography and I'd be better suited to go to a horse show or something. General pet expos are way too expensive.

Thanks

You've hit the main question... are there enough people willing to drop $ on their pets.

I am personally trying to develop a few nitches. Getting into family album building (as opposed to prints) --very similar to my wedding albums. It is one of those things that draws in more clients as they see it in people's hands. With that in mind, I donated two albums to charity auctions. They then drummed up a few more orders alone.... it might snow-ball here for me now.

Marketing is the real trick here.

Good to hear Jeko, I hope it does well for you.

Good idea for the charity auctions, gets your name and photos out there.

I didn't think pet photography would be very much business for me but I've had so much buzz about it this past week. I did two people's pets for free and they each have several people who want to pay me to do pet photography for their pets. I have a vet who is interested to talk to me and someone who called to ask if I wanted to hang pictures in her office to decorate it and I can sell the prints or use it for advertising. I've also been asked to take photos as illustrations for a kids book on animals.
It is all been so fun and positive, I hope it is a sign it is the right thing to do.

I've purchased back drops and a few cute props for people who like that sort of thing, and would love to get into horse photography.

If it is something fun that could enable me to do less weddings a year in order to make a living I'm all over it!

Good luck with your stuff Jeko!

Smile
