2005 Flickering Image Shorts Fest - ENTRY CALL Can't Post

A CALL FOR ENTRIES
The Third Annual
Flickering Image Festival
Shorts Competition 2005
That's right, after two successful years, we are doing it again... and again... and again... The competition got more intense the second year, so don't wait until 2006. If history is a good predictor, entries will pour in from around the world... Europe, England, Japan, and quite a few from Canada, and though it will be a difficult decision, we’ll chose our ten winners.
Each of the ten winning shorts will be screened in Hollywood (January 8, 2005) as well as get a congratulatory listing in “Variety” just before that infamous mega-festival in Park City, Utah.
And now the detailed press release:
Flickering Image is proud to present the Third Annual "Flickering Image Festival Shorts Competition 2005" - dedicated to sparking the careers of the next generation of moviemakers. Beginning JULY 1, 2004 shorts makers will be able to submit their finished works (30 MINUTES OR LESS and completed after January 2003) to compete in the Flickering Image Shorts Competition.
Screenings will take place in Hollywood, on January 8, 2005. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2004, so, as they say, don't delay. The top ten shorts are selected by open-anonymous ballots (where the shorts maker will actually see how their work rated with each of three judges - something no other festival used to offer… until several started copying us!). Each winner will be shown on the "big screen" in Hollywood and the winning shorts makers will receive awards - as well as a congratulatory listing in Variety (just before that "major festival"). More perks are in the works.
The founders of this festival have nearly a hundred years combined experience in fields like acting, directing, writing and criticism. With many festivals under their collective belts they've seen how poorly the process can be run and vowed to do better - and they did! Through publicly viewable correspondence they have planned and refined a festival the guarantees impartiality, accountability and dedication to the arts of visual storytelling that other festivals can only imagine.
No 'invited' films - everyone must compete.
No secret deals - all ballots will be returned to the shorts makers - including judges comments!
No watching the first few minutes - all ballots rate items like story, pacing, photography and editing - elements impossible to judge in fast forward!
The Flickering Image Festival is about moviemaking - not politics and it is definitely not "business as usual." Fair, open and forward facing - this festival will make a difference.
Details, entry forms, application fees, and more are on our website at

We look forward to seeing your shorts!

Howdy,

Looks like we missed this forum this year... sorry.

Read over the CALL FOR ENTRIES above and just know that we're here... every year... and it just keeps getting better.

November first is our deadline... so if you've got a short that meets our rules PLEASE sent it right away!

I've slapped an entry form here (pdf) and here's another link to the fest site... best of luck:
