i think people might not be replying to your post because of the obvious qustions but i'll fill you in.
the big difference between the 2 cameras you mentiond is that one of them does not exits =)
there is no such thing as a 16mm "camcorder". 16mm cameras on the other hand are film based cameras and are usually used for lower budget productions as they cost less alround than a 35mm(movie) camera.dv is processed by a chip and stored on magnetic metalic tape(dv tapes)
avid well thats the brand of production software used in all the big production house and tv stations, there are many different ranges from avid dv (for home use) all the way up to avid sympohny for tv and movies.
hope this all helped
keep asking questions too cause thats how we all learnt (just some people forget that =)

Hello,
1) 16mm is a film movie camera that is the film size inbetween Super8 and 35mm. A sync Bolex 16mm may be similar in price as a MiniDV home video camera, but movie film has a high price tag. There may be places to rent film movie cameras in your city. They can also be found in used camera stores or on ebay. Look for a non-profit organization that supports film-art, because organizations like that rent cameras for very low rates. For example: L.I.F.T. at www.lift.on.ca Or, call universities or colleges in your area for information on organizations or rentals.
2) Digital camcorders record digital video(DV). DV tapes are much more affordable than film. A two hour DV cassette may be $8.
Of course, the look of film is different than video.

Avid is a company that makes video editing software and systems. Check the Avid website for their products/prices. If you are a student, then you can purchase any software at students' rates which is much lower than the regular prices.
