festival: New York International Children's Film Festival
dates/city: February 2-11, 2001 / New York City
entry deadline: November 1, 2000
entry fee: $75/Feature, $40/Short, $25/Student Feature or Short
submission format: 1/2" VHS video cassette - NTSC, PAL or Secam
screening format: 35mm, 16mm, Beta SP or 3/4" video.
NYICFF accepts shorts, features, animation, documentary,
narrative and experimental film and video on all budgets. To qualify,
works must be completed no earlier than July 1, 1998. Foreign language
films must be dubbed or subtitled in English. We will accept student and
child-produced works. We are looking for passionate, creative,
intelligent, entertaining film and video for ages 3-18. We will consider
difficult, controversial subject matter. Young people are sophisticated;
please submit films with substance.
The festival will present 50 new films in competition, plus
retrospectives, production workshops, panel discussions, sidebars,
filmmaker Q&A's, and the NYICFF Award Ceremony for a projected audience of
12,000.
prizes: All audience members complete ballots to select festival winners.
NYICFF presents winning filmmakers with an original bronze statuette
created by renown sculptor Tom Otterness. In addition, production
prizes are presented to the top student and New York area filmmakers.
history: The February 2001 festival is the 4th annual NYICFF. The
previous festival attracted 10,000 people, garnered feature articles in all
New York papers, and received major television, radio and on-line
coverage. Filmmakers attended from around the world. Festival sponsors
included Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, NYU, Time Warner, Kozmo.com,
New York Times, Time Out New York and The Village Voice. Forty-four films
were screened in competition, of which 30 were New York, U.S. or world
premieres. NYICFF is the recipient of a prestigious grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences--the only children's film festival to
receive this honor.

NYICFF 2001 Schedule of Events
The 4th Annual New York International Children’s Film Festival promises to be the largest and most exciting event to date. The festival takes place February 2-25 for a projected audience of 12,000 children, teens, parents, filmmakers and media professionals. The festival will present 50 new films in competition plus retrospectives, filmmaker Q&As, sidebar events, workshops, opening and closing receptions, and the NYICFF Awards Ceremony.
* Opening Night Gala - February 2
Celebrity hosted special film presentation, followed by a party reception.
Directors Guild of America Theater, 110 West 57th Street, New York City.
* New Films in Competition - February 3-4
Fifty new films and videos, featuring the best features, shorts, animation, documentary, narrative and experimental works from around the world. Filmmakers will be on hand to discuss their films and answer audience questions following the screenings. All audience members vote to select the NYICFF 2001 award winners.

A series of films and workshops presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Program to be announced.

NYICFF's second weekend features retrospective programs, special screenings, and free sidebar events. And don't miss the high point of the festival, February 13, when filmmakers and special guests are on hand for the NYICFF 2000 Awards Ceremony and Reception--a fun for all ages event featuring celebrity host, award presentations, encore screenings of the winning films, free door prizes, and a fully catered reception.

Aspiring auteurs have the opportunity to work with award-winning filmmakers in NYICFF's hands-on, film production workshops. Programs in animation, documentary and narrative filmmaking are offered during the President's Day week school holiday, for children ages 8-16.

In partnership with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, NYICFF presents a series of films during the President's Day week school holiday. Program to be announced.

In partnership with American Museum of the Moving Image, NYICFF presents a series of films during the President's Day week school holiday. Program to be announced.
