Capture problems with Sony DVgate Can't Post

I have been trying to capture and export with DVgate Motion, and running into problems. I know DVgate is crap, but is there anything I can do before I get a new capture card. Is there other software I could get cheap or free that would do the job? I have a Sony Vaio tower w/firewire (excuse me, iLink) ports and Premier LE, and a Sony dcr-trv9 camcorder.

: I have the same equipment. I do not have capture problems but frequently get an error message to check the connections when trying to write to the camera. Restarting Windows and defragging the file usually fixes it. I don't know of any free software that is available but Ulead is a company which produces video editing software which is as good as Adobe and costs about 60%.

Capture problems with Sony DVgate [In reply to] Can't Post

I have a DCR-TRV 900E (PAL) and a Sony VAIO notebook with Windows 2000, iLink, and DVgate. When I connect the two with a firewire cable, there is an on-screen indication that the device is on-line but the video clip does not display on the comuter screen Neither can I capture. Is there any known incompatibility with the PAL system or Windows 2000? Am I doing something wrong while connecting? Can someone help me with the exact sequential steps of connecting the two and capturing?
Thanks a ton!

DVgate 2.1 will be ok for windows 2000 [In reply to] Can't Post

Sony is issuing an upgrade of DVgate from ver2.0 to ver2.1 (by far perhaps Japanese version only), of course not free, which is the right version for windows2000.
Hope it will help.

Have you checked your default video system settings . Firstly there is a programe called sigchange (I think from memory)in one of your directories . Try a search of you HDD for a file name *sig*.* this should find it.
When you click to execute this programe it opens a menu allowing you to change from NTSC to PAL systems. Also check your PC BIOS settings are set to PAL.
I currently have a fully licenced but Japanese version only of DVgate for My laptop I bought in Japan. If anyone has a copy of the english Version I would be very interested in doing a deal to get a copy.
Please email me if you are interested - spinley@xtra.co.nz
Thanks

Japanese DVGATE [In reply to] Can't Post

I too bought a japanese VAIO PC and a Japanese Handycam dcr-sc100. I made my PC dual boot japanese and english. when i boot to japanese windows my dvgate software works great. I loaded it on the english platform and it looks like it loads fine. I run dvgate and it looks as though it works, the controls move the tape, etc. no sound or display though. I'm also wondering if an english version would work? Does anyone know? I would like to elimnate the japanese partitino completely, and just run english, but then i lose all my video editing capabilities

Sony & Microsoft [In reply to] Can't Post

f*ck sony. they advertise about all these cool features and when you get one of their products, it doesn't seem to work well unless we buy another one of it's products. i guess they are following up microsoft. f*ck both of them. i bought a sony camera and i wanted to connect it to my pc, and well guess what? it says I need to get DVGate, which I can't seem to find in any stores and no one, even the SONY agents themselves have no idea where i could buy the software. then i am now told to buy a Sony Vaio.. what the hell is that? just because i want a software i am asked to buy laptop? now probably when i buy the laptop, i'll probably be asked to buy a Sony tv so that i could view stuffs from my laptop. f*ck the bastards.
