DVgate and Sony DCR-TRV900 E (PAL) and VAIO notebook with Windows 2000 Professional: Incompatible? PLEASE HELP!!!!	Can't Post

I have a DCR-TRV 900E (PAL) and a Sony VAIO notebook with Windows 2000, iLink, and DVgate. When I connect the two with a firewire cable, there is an on-screen indication that the device is on-line but the video clip does not display on the computer screen Neither can I capture.
Is there any known incompatibility with the PAL system or Windows 2000?
Am I doing something wrong while connecting?
Can someone help me with the exact sequential steps of connecting the two and capturing?
