Film to video Can't Post

I'm shooting some Super 8 and I would like it transfered to DV. What are my options, and what is the approximate cost for the service. Thanks in advance.

Re: Film to video Can't Post

Nick,
I believe there's some range of cost & quality. At the top in both departments, probably, is the work done by Super8 Sound, located in Burbank, CA (see link, below). Their site gives good detail about the film-to-tape transfer process they use, and also indicates their charges. I believe another outfit that does this (don't know the details just yet) is The Tape House (located in several cities, including NYC). I found a website for (what I take to be) them -- at http://www.tapehouse.com/ -- though I've not gotten far enough into its artsy layers to get what one might call actual info.
Hope this serves as a useful start anyway. On the el cheapo end, it's possible to rig up a setup whereby you take a DV shot focused on a screen from a projected super8 image. There have been some clever gizmos that package this process into a little box (saw one for sale on the eBay auction site recently, for instance -- a poss. useful place to look for such artifacts of antiquity). I know a dozen years ago one could send out super8 tapes to various semi-pro hobbyists who ran such transfers, but I don't know to what extent the ranks have thinned at present.
If interested in best results & working on a project that allows for some cashflow, I'd check out Super8 Sound. But it would be interesting to know in more detail what other options there are. Anyone know such particulars?
