From DV to PC to DVD Can't Post

I have a Sony Digital 8 camcorder (model DCR TRV510E), and I´ve copied some film through the FireWire to the PC. I´m using "Adobe Premiere 5,0" and "Ulead VideoStudio 4.0 SE Basic".
I´m planning to edit some film, and then burn it on a cd-rom and play it on my 1-2 year old Sony DVD player (...which is not in a pc, but below the tv).
But what format should I use for the cd-rom ? I´ve edited some film, and saved it in DV, but the result is "something.AVI".
When I play the AVI, the program says its a DV film. But the DVD player doesnt read avi ? Isn´t DVD a Mpeg2 format ?
Please help me get the film down on the cd-rom, so I can watch it on my dvd.
