How does one go about making a short film?? Can't Post

For the past few years I have developed a vast interest in the film industry and have decided to pursue a career in directing. I'm hoping to start my first directing project in the near future. I was wondering how I could go about making a short film (or should I start off w/ something a little more simple)? I already have the story line and have thoroughly thought out the script; I just need to know where to go from here. Also, when I do finish the film, where is the best place I should send it to? Thanks. ~Kikia
P.S. I'm under 18, so the budget is a big issue.

You might find some useful info at www.eveo.com
Eveo is an interesting new concept. You send them your short films, they digitize and post it on the web. If it's really good, they pitch it to producers, et al, and split the money from any sales with you (although they get the bigger chunk.) Perhaps that's putting the cart before the horse, since you are asking how to go about making the shorts to start with.
I recommend you check into all the free magazines you can get, such as "Videography" and "A-V Producer." You will find a lot of technical info in these. Also, if you have access to a community college with a filmmaking program, it might be a good idea to sign up for a course.

One other idea on "how to make a short film:"
Saw the legs off the tripod.
You're right... "Corny."

Don't think "budget". Don't think "age limit". Think, What specifically do I need to do this project? Who has it? How can I convince them to help out?
Like this:
You decide you will shoot the piece in DV format. You ask around and find out that the local community college teaches a class in desktop video. You call the instructor, who also turns out to be a wedding videographer. He has an XL1 digital camera. You ask to meet him and show him your script. He is blown away and becomes your director of photography, complete with camera.
Other possible resources: Your school's video department. Drama department. Cheerleading squad. Journalism department. Local repertory theatre. Yellow page ads under "Film and Video Production Services". Local colleges and universities. Does your film highlight the plight of a downtrodden minority? Check with the agency(s) for that minority about support.
Don't let ANYTHING stop you, and you will complete the project!

Doug Graham
