How important is "real time capability" anyway? Can't Post

How important is "real time" capability in an NLE system for wedding/event video production?
We're trying to decide between a "real time capable" system like the 866MHz Pentium III system offered by ProMax featuring the Pinnacle DV500 card, and a Mac G4/466 MT Single Processor system, also offered by ProMax, featuring only Premiere 6.0. (it's my understanding that the Mac platform is not currently capable of "real time", although it may be this spring with new Matrox software coming out).

Real Time will speed up your work considerably(no rendering time). If you are planning to be using alot of filters or transitions go real time. Check out the new Canopus DV-Storm or the Canopus Rex-RT. They both come with premiere6.0 and are extremely stable real time editing boards.
