Re: Low Budget FX Can't Post

For skin:
Use condoms, don't laugh, they work, if you need a bullet wound
use a small explosive charge on top of a metal plate with a condom with blood inside, makes a great blood/bits of skin and flesh.
For blood: use Red food coloring in Corn syrup, corn syrup is VERY important, it has just the right amount of thickness (for movie looking blood, remember movie blood is WAY thicker than the real thing, so if you looking for a VERY realistic look, delute the syrup with water) also add flour to the syrup (but don't mix to much!) for a REALLY gore type look.
For limbs: unfortunatly there is no easy way to make a severed limb without spending some cash BUT there are a few tricks, go to your local store that has halloween type stuff and just pick one up! bust out some of your wifes make up and try to get the right skin tone, then use some of the blood mixture from earlier.
also use very short shots of the limb, it'll add to the effect of the arm, don't focus on it too long, this is used a lot to achieve realism, because the watcher of the film can't tell whats going on so there brain fills it in for them (which is good)
Also:
make the arm twitch if it was recently cut off, this will make it look quite a bit more real, poke at it or stick a wire in the fingers or something, hey, chickens run around for hours with there heads cut off why can't an arm twitch a little.
