Making DV look like Film ? Can't Post

I want to do a project that looks like film from a Sony VX2100. Anyone know any tricks on how to make digital video look like film?

Tiffen's Black Pro Mist Filters and good looking film-style lighting. We have an article entitled
"Shoot Video To Look Like Film" at http://videouniversity.com/filmtovi.htm

Besides proper lighting and shooting, there are some tricks you can use in post.

Vegas has a free subset of Magic Bullet's film looks that you can apply, although the render times are quite long.

A quicker method has been proposed by Shawn Bockoven of Sacramento: Duplicate your clip. Apply some blur to the duplicate clip, and adjust the gamma curve for increased saturation. You may also try deinterlacing it. Change the transparency of the original clip to about 30-50% to allow the modified clip to show through.

Great info, thanks! I'm currently shooting alot of scenes outside with natural light only. I've been lucky and have had overcast days which I greatly prefer. Will the filter you mentioned still work well for what I want in that situation? Outdoors in natural diffused light? Or is it best used for pro lighting only?

The Black Pro Mist simply adds a little overall softness to the picture, and is independent of lighting. The lower-strength versions are generally felt to give the best results.

The diffuse lighting you've experienced so far is a good thing. The very harsh shadows cast by full sunlight are something you generally want to avoid. One way is to choose your shooting days. Other times, you may want to pitch an awning made of gauzy cloth to cut down on the sunlight, and/or use reflectors to get some light into those black areas.
