I'm making my first short film, a voyage through space.but, I don't know what to use for the backround stars.I want something similar to the Twilight Zone,in black and white.I'm starting out with a vhs camcorder.I'd appreciate any help,Thanks

: You could hang a green screen and use chroma key.. Then you could decide on the perfect backgound in post....

If we're talking pre-"digital age" effects, try a flat black opaque drop cloth with holes punched through it and lighting behind. Many tiny lights on spaceships in the original Star Wars Trilogy were simply places on a glass "canvas" that were not painted with lighting behind.

Alex,
Describe the shot you want to do. Inside the spaceship looking out the window? Or an exterior shot of the ship itself (a flyby)? Or an exterior shot with people in it (spacesuited, of course)? There are different ways to go about each of these.
Regards,
