Producing Questions Can't Post

I have recently been approached with an opportunity that I cannot pass up. A producer/director of a cable TV channel has asked me if I was interested in becoming a free-lance producer on the west coast for him. I have not experience save for a few small projects, and he knows this, but is still willing to have me on a few sets to see how things are done.
I just wanted some advice because I'm not sure what to expect and I don't want to look like a complete idiot.. Is there a book I can buy for some info or does someone out there have any advice..
Anything is appreciated. Thanks.
