SVHS and Beta Can't Post

I was wondering what experiences people have had with these two tape formats. In particular, which has served better, if at all any.
Is SVHS in fact a higher line res than beta? Since their both sampling at 4:2:2, does this make them equal, more or less?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
