Teen Movie Can't Post

Greetings everyone!
I've read nearly every post here, and I am very impressed by the knowledge that you all have. I deeply enjoyed reading every post.
Okay, now, onto my question(s).
My friend Drew and I are very serious about making a movie this summer, and hopefully submitting it into some film fests near and around DC and Baltimore.
Well, my question is, do you have any advice for a couple of 16 year olds who are very serious about making an excellent movie and submitting it to a fest.? We have about a year to do this, and we really want to do it right.
If anybody has any forums, links, sites, advice, products we should look into, or any of that jazz, please let me know.
You can post here, or send me an e-mail at Jaminme@aol.com
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it.
Signed,
Brian Ellis

Thanks Doug, I'll keep you in mind. we were thinking of buying some software and editing it ourselves, but I'd really like to learn the techniques. Thanks. When the project is done, I'll shoot you over an e-mail. Mines Jaminme@aol.com. Talk to you soon.

Re: Teen Movie [In reply to] Can't Post

I used to make films on Super 8 when I was 16, edited them myself, casted
them, and wrote the music. I suggest you don't hire anybody but you get the
film shot, edited, scored and then submitted to every film festival of
independents. Don't just limit yourself to Baltimore and DC. (By the way Johns
Hopkins University has a very good film festival of independents, hopefully still
every year which you should submit it to). One important thing, find a mentor
who works either in a lab or in studio who can tell you what you can do to
improve your technique. And another thing you should probably do is if you
want it to look at all professional, try and get a cameraman to operate the
camera, try at a tv station or cable public access station. Unless you really
know how to operate a camera, it's proably best to concentrate on directing
your actors rather than worrying how to dealwith all the technicalities of digital
video cameras.. What sort of camera do you plan on using anyway?

Bill, sorry it took so long to respond.
I am planning on using a JVC GR-DVL820 Digital Camcorder. I am still looking around, though, so if you have any suggestions on a great camera that I can use for under $500, I'm all ears.
