Camcorder accessories are like peanuts...you can't eat just one. They're also like the stuff you can buy at Pep Boys to dress up your car...they're nice, but they won't turn a Ford into a Ferrari. These things won't change the fact that the lens on your camcorder is a certain quality, and the DV format has a certain quality. What they CAN do is to solve certain problems in much the same way that Hollywood filmmakers solve them. In that sense, they can make your work look more "filmlike". A matte box and a french flag are for light control. They keep unwanted light from hitting your lens and creating flares and hotspots. They do a much better job of this than the stock lens hood. The matte box also has slots for rectangular filters, making it much easier and faster to change out filters. An anamorphic lens adapter lets you use all your camera's pixels when shooting for widescreen. Various sorts of stabilizers can help you get steady shots. A remote zoom and focus control does much the same, by keeping your fingers off the camcorder when making adjuistments. But no add-on accessory will suddenly make your work look like Indiana Jones. Learning the lighting and camera techniques used by filmmakers will do a lot more for you in that area. Regards, Doug Graham Panda Productions
