What IS the DVCAM format?

What IS the DVCAM format?	Can't Post

I'm fairly familiar with mini DV as used in the majority of domestic cameras, but I note that there is a new range of pro cameras (reasonably priced too) which are DVCAM format.
Can anyone explain what this format is and how it improves on mini DV. Are the cameras more rugged than their DV counterparts. Where does the new SONY PD 150 fit into things - supposedly mini DV AND DVCAM.

DVCAM is pretty much the same as Mini DV -- The only difference is the tape stock is more robust for heavy editing!!!! The quality stays the same!!!
