If your noise is really white noise (that is equally strong at all frequencies)then you are in real trouble. All I can suggest is that you boost the midrange important for speech, and be prepared to live with the results.

I was thinking that might be the case. I was using a Canon Xl1s and running a mic out of the back of it with a splitter. I have to crank the gain up to get anything at all. I guess I need some kind of pre-amp. Any suggestions.
