X-Ray & 16:9 Can't Post

Hello,
I have two questions relating to X-ray and aspect ratios. First of all, I know that x-ray machines at airports have done quite a number on people's film, but what are the effects on miniDV tapes...should I ask to have them manually inspected at the airport? Also, my camcorder, panasonic pvdv953, claims I can shoot in 16:9 ratio, and I'm wondering if I should be using this instead of 4:3 if I ever want to transfer my images to film for the big screen! Any advice?
All help greatly appreciated...thank you!
Saba

Saba,
most consumer mini DV cams degrade the image when creating 16:9.
it is often better to just shoot without it, with the understanding
that you will need to chop some image from top and bottom during transfer.

Re: X-Ray & 16:9 [In reply to] Can't Post

X-rays will not harm magnetic tape.
I've seen some posts that indicate that powerful X-rays can *possibly* harm your camera's CCDs or other chips. Since the X-rays used for checked baggage are MORE powerful than those used for hand-carried luggage, I don't recommend checking your camcorder.
I've sent mine through the scanner lots of times, with no problems. However, if you're very nervous, you can insist on a hand check. You will need to have a battery handy, and be able to turn the camcoorder on so the guard can look into the viewfinder and check the image. (Presumably to make sure the camcorder IS a camcorder, and not a cleverly disguised container for drugs or explosives).
