Re: amazon etc. Can't Post

I'm in the process of putting a video into the Amazon pipeline.
You should read their requirements carefully. One of the things
they require is a UPC bar code which is a pain and expensive. It
costs $750.
Is it worth it? Do you have a really good documentary people
will want to see? If so, then it's worth it.
Just as important or more so is getting lots of reviews. If
you're not doing this, Amazon or even Barnes and Noble won't
help. Good reviews are one of the keys. Hire a publicist if
necessary, but without good reviews it will probably not be
profitable.
Also get testimonials from satisfied viewers. And you will need
a very good cover. Even if you get into Amazon and the others,
you really need to have a web site to sell it. No one will sell
it quite as well as you will.
I'm writing a book on this subject so I've learned quite a lot
about what you need to do and how some people win big, but the
vast majority lose.
Good luck to you and keep us posted.
Hal Landen
P.S. My book's not ready yet, but will be announced on this web site when it is.

I made a documentary about five years ago that targets a specialized audience that I
sell on a couple of web sites. Hal's information about Amazon is correct. I checked
into selling on their site but the fees for the UPC code turned me off. To date, I've
sold over 3,000 copies of my video and it continues to sell. The trick for me was to
get some good reviews and place it on sites where my target audience will find it. I
also spent the money to have the sleeve cover prepared by a graphic layout artist. It
helps to make your video look professional. BTW, my video is about Shelby Cobra
kit cars. Check out www.cobracountry.com and follow the link to "books and video"
if you want to see what the site and video looks like.
