filming illegal things Can't Post

Hello, what happens if you make a movie that involves illegal activity, like motorcycle racing, for example.

Now Doug, play nice and give him back his toys...Wink I would say if you get caught the police may confiscate the tape, camera and anything else they feel is evidence. Especially if someone gets hurt or dies.

Market it as a car commercial and you'll have NO PROBLEM.

Notice how every car commercial shows two things:

SPEEDING where you KNOW the speed is perfect for humans but against the law Sly

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VIEW - notice how the speedometer always pegs above 80 ? Hmm, where in the U.S. is THAT allowed.

Cops bust you, say you're the MAZDA production crew - this is for a MAZDA comparison shot and that all the cops can go ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM outta here.

Other than that, as other suggest, prepare to turn over your goods, see you next monday in court. YIKES

Haven't you seen the disclaimer on all those car commercials? "Professional Driver. Closed Course." It's all legal as heck, if misleading.

Oh yea - misleading as all get out ... and I'm totally tired of car commercials, unless I'm shooting them (LOL). That newest one where the guy kisses the wife, takes four steps out of his house and parachutes down to his new SUZUKI is about as stupid as they come, but they keep on coming.

It seems, to advertise nowadays, you can just come up with the MOST ridiculous premise, having nothing to do with what you're selling, throw a disclaimer on it ... and you're IN THERE !!!

It's not what you're selling, it's how you're selling it - I guess.

Nice to know I am not the only one who wishes that guy's chute wouldn't open. Car commercials have less to do with the car themselves and more to do with what some marketing people are telling the auto industry is the type of person who will be inclined to buy a certain model. This of course is not something new to marketing but it's getting a little out of hand.

As for shooting illegal material.......as long as the camera person is not the promoter/producer of an illegal event then the worst that can happen is they will use your tape as evidence and possibly if not probably have you testify depending on if someone was hurt or there was property damage.

HBO had a famous documentary where the camera person, using a hidden cam, followed some thieves as they shoplifted. The doc was so popular they did a follow up to it years later. HBO nor the camera people were held liable though most would agree they were pushing the envelope.

When my daughter saw that commercial, she asked me "Did he die?" I told her no, but why she ask that. She said "Becasue there's blood." Blood? The next time we saw the commercial, I asked her where the blood was. Right when the guys chute opens, it's red and it's far away, so it looked like blood to her. And now I can't see that commercial without thinking that's his blood after hitting the ground.
