Rachel, I don't have any clear-cut answers for you, but hopefully I can be more helpful than "J......" Research what videos are currently being made of these sports: Who is selling them, who is buying them, who is featured in them (and why), who is distributing them. Talk to some of the athletes in these sports. There is a skateboard shop here in NYC called "Supreme," at which many successful skaters hang out. Some of them have their own shoe lines, brand sponsorships, and appear in videos. Call Supreme, or find something comparable in your area, and ask the skaters, boarders, or whoever how they got connected with the videos that they have done. You could present yourself as an independent producer looking to feature the athlete in a video you will be making and looking to sell to a distributor. Play both sides and contact a distributor, saying, "Yeah, I've got so-and-so from the such-and-such video; you know, they guy who won the blah-blah award last year? He's interested, but I don't think he's ready to commit 'til I can get distribution lined up..." I don't know if the system is such that the video distributors would front the money for the production or not. You may have to fund it out of pocket, or get try and talk a store like Supreme or its counterparts into sponsoring the video. A major-monetary commitment could get the video called "Supreme Skate's Hottest Stars," while a smaller monetary commitment gets Supreme's logo featured on surfaces where the skating is filmed. Adjust this scenario to fit the sport. These are some ideas off the top of my head; I hope that you can make some use of them. -Jim
