need some informations Can't Post

hello !
I'm planning to get a MAC and a really good camera because I want to make professionnal snowboard movies in the near futur. I've been using a PC with premiere for several years now and I want something really better now. If anybody could give me all the information I need on MACs and good programs and on the best camera I could get, I would apreciate it !
thx

Most likely you'll want to go with final cut pro. Similar to premiere but with more capabilities. Camera wise I suppose you're looking for a DV cam which if you want to have anything somewhat professional you'll at least want a Canon GL-1 or something comparable like the SOny VX-2000. I believe you can find one of those on ebay for around $1,300. A step up would be say the Canon XL-1, for higher price of course. Where are you located? I'm interested in snowboard films as well, thinking about buying the GL-1 myself if I can get the cash together.

ok first off you don't need to kick your pc to the curb to make better productions.
i have been making snowboard videos and music videos from my pc based editing system for a while now.the biggest thing is mac isn't better(and people are kidding them selves if they think there is a difference) you can still go with final cut pro as it is availiable for pc's now too. however i still use prmiere because it's not to tech and does everything i need, now people are gonna tell you thats it's a consumer programme but i used final cut, avid dv pro and a few others that don't bare remebering and there is nothing wrong with premiere. i mean if you need a better graphics engine or blue screen effects then shore shop around but i can use after effects for that stuff and they work well together.so i would keep your pc,upgrade the guts a bit if you need to,keep premiere and use the $1000 you just saved by thinking a little to buy an even better camera.
now cameras
i've had a few and just moved on to a sony pdx10 (used to be the pd100) this is a great camera and new on ebay will set you back $2200 but i have found shops in dv magazines selling them for about $1700 the best part about this camera is that it's small (look like a mini dv camera) and the filter size is only 37mm(compared to 52mm ish on all the other 3 chips) this means any wide angle or filters you buy will automatically be half the price (see saving more money) those other cams are great but weigh twice as much and suck to try and carry around doing follow cam over jumps. the only thing this camera is missing is a handle (all the others have them cos there so damn big) but you can buy one from sony for about $40 or make one for about $6 bucks.
remember this is a big dick complex industry like all the others so your gonna see guys with great big cameras and $400 tripods, why because they can and they did, you can be smarter and still make great videos.
goodluck

thx for your advices. But I think I'll stick to the idea of going with mac just because I had so much problems with this dam PC when making movies. even if I have a good system ! But I'm gonna keep my PC for games and internet and stuff like this and use my mac only for editing and designs !
but I've take notes on your tricks to save money on the camera !
thanks a lot !

Re: need some informations [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi-,
I just recently purchased the Mac G5 with Final Cut pro 4 and Canon XL 1s, I am very much satisfied with this configuration for my professional production.
Two of friends in the video production world are now also switching to the MAC for relief from the many discomforts with PC editing.
