Re: [adtr] QT7 for windows [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't see much difference, other than the release isn't as unstable as the beta. Better than WM 10? At identical bitrates...not in my opinion. But it's good, real good. Probably the best low-cost H.264 available. Stepping up to Nero gets you a better AVC, but...it's 3 times the cost. But also a faster render. If only it were 3 times as fast to render...Smile

DSE: how do your render times for AVC compare to render times for Windows Media at matching resolutions, and using what hardware and software for the comparison?

I haven't quantified it in terms of minutes or seconds, I guess I should....but it's pretty obvious that the AVC is much faster than Windows Media, using Sony Vegas, frameserving to Nero.
As far as hardware, I've done this on virtually all of our systems, I work predominantly on 5 systems ranging from 3.2 GHz laptop to dual 275 AMD's, to X2 4400/4800 AMD. In every case, the AVC render is significantly faster than rendering to Windows Media.

Thanks, that's sufficiently useful information for now. One thing for sure is that WMV rendering is painfully slow, so if AVC is faster that's another point in its favor.
