Another HDV tidbit Can't Post

This is not anti-HDV propaganda BTW ;)

It has been rumored for awhile that the component outputs from the FX1/Z1 actually come *before* the HDV compression. It appears that this may be true as one of the engineering-oriented reviewers out there has been working on this theory. It has been documented that there is a certain 'lag' that comes into play when recording the image to tape due to the Mpeg compression process. It can range somwhere around a second or two. Now, when you connect your FX1 to a component TV or convertor and feed the *live* image through notice the amount of delay you have...hardly any. You will also notice a lack of artifacts in places and situations where you normally see them from off the tape.

So what does this mean? It means that if you connected this to a recorder able to take the signal you could get a nuncompressed stream or a compression of your choice. It would not neccesarily be practical for events except where they are stationary cams. Still, this is my major beef with the Sony options and would them a LOT more interesting.

gl<- Portable DVCPROHD drive anyone?
