In Raw numbers it would seem to beable to do much better than the others but in reality it doesn't. There are many factors to look at such as the switch, cards and computers. By the numbers it looks as if you can get around a 120 MBps out of it but in real life it is not that fast. Firewire 800, by the numbers should beable to do around 100 MBps and it seems to have a higher transfer rate in most real applications than the Gigabit Network. It has a lot to do with how wide the pipe is and includes alot of variables. The result is this... It is not easy to transfer, sustain and decode HDV for editing over a normal network. One of the Stations I trained had the ability to capture native HD to a network from a couple pf machines and the ability to edit off of about 8. The pipelines created for that nework were HUGE! and even then it can slow down. I know I am rambling right now even though on paper it looks like it should fly, networks are just not the easiest to work over. Mike Thomson/GrassValley
