BRAND NEW MODEL.... SONY HDV camcorder... not over here!! Can't Post

Why the heck are we in ape ages over here in North America. Japan, China and all of Europe are so far ahead in terms of technology and new products. This little camera is widely available in Europe. Over here if we are lucky at NAB in 2008!!! What a joke!

wrong - contrary.
Generaly we (in PAL land) get everything later.
Now it is time to be the first.

All HDV things are available in Japan and USA at first and then the Pal-version comes to Europe.

Now we are first - jipiehh.

US may have HDTV but Europe has 16:9 and here that has been the standard for over a year. Go to the stores now and the only 4:3 sets are portables. So from Sony's POV they can sell on widescreen without even mentioning HD.

Hi Markus,

Yeah, I think your right in general, but perhaps a little trend may be occurring here? I do have a few Cassie associates from the UK that like to razz us in the states about having to wait 3-6 months for us to get the same software and hardware releases. And, when we do, our first versions sometimes come with "the bugs" - the going from PAL to NTSC bugs.Unsure

I think today itīs quite simple with software or hardware releases.
You can buy everything from all over the world.
My Vegas come from US for example.
The only thing we canīt buy from all over the world are cameras, because there ist the stupid NTSC and PAL standard.
Somethings will change in the future wit HD and HDV but I think it will take a few years.
It is crazy - the industrie create a new standard (HD - HDV) and take very very old standards (NTSC and PAL) to mix it.
I hope in a few years all camera make 24, 25 or maybe 30p and it doesīt matter from where to buy.
