Canon XH-A1 hard case suggestions Can't Post

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a hard case with internal padding to house three XH-A1s. I've been looking at the pelican cases but am not sure which one would be the best. Does anyone have any suggestions or knowledge that I would help in this search?

Thank you

Jan-Arden Petersen

P.S.
Within the next couple of weeks I am planning on selling off my PD150's and probably my PD170's as well. All in excellent condition with low hours. If you know of any intersest parties feel free to email. I have yet to set a price, but will be doing research over the next several days on present value.

If you happen to remember, send me a message when you decide on the prices of the pd 150's and 170's cameras, I might be interested.

Thanks,
Dave

Aw, you don't want no raggedy PD170, don't even bother to make him an offer, let some other poor ignert slob buy them! Laugh (Just kidding...I'm going to TRY to buy a PD170 in July myself.)

Jan-Arden, do a VU search for "Pelican 1650". It's a great case, if you're into carrying around that much gear. Just don't get the model with pick-n-pluck foam...get the padded dividers instead. As a matter of fact, yes I HAVE owned everything in the B&H catalog at one time or another. Laugh

Good luck!

Hello Dave,
I should be getting around to researching present value and setting pricing within the next week or two. I'll be in touch.

Rusty,
The 1650 was a strong consideration, but looking at the padded dividers, I did see any way I could get my three A1s in there. I need 14 inches of length and the horizontal dividers are only 10.5 I believe. In the picture it looked perfect, but the length was a deal breaker. I may still consider the case with foam, but then there is the issue of keeping enough space between the cams since the foam does like to break away with use. I have three of the smaller Pelican cases and have replaced the foam on one and the other is due if I continue to use it. I may consider selling it if somone wants a pair of my Sony cams. Oh the decisions.
Thank you for your tip on the search and your suggestion. I feel I may still go with the 1650.

The 1650 is huge. The 10.5" meausrement is for the depth, not for the length/width. You could fit 6+ A1's in it. Tongue Interior dimensions are: 29 x 17 7/8 x 10 1/2"

I think there's a few others that originally bought it with foam, but ended up replacing it with padded dividers, as well, and will probably say the same thing...don't waste your money buying trying to save a few bucks by buying the foam...buy it right the first time. The $30 optional lid organizer is nice as well, but not a "must have".

I shoot alone, so the 1650 was just WAY too big for me to be dragging around, so I sold it to another VU'er. But if you're travelling with a big film crew and 3 A1's, it would be perfect. My current camcorder fits into the front pocket of my trousers. Laugh

I was referencing to the dimensions of the padded dividers. They listed on 16 inch divider and two 10.5 inch dividers as the longest ones in the set. I would need two dividers 14.5 inches long to accommodate three cams. I believe the case is the right choice even if I have to get the foam. It is about the same size as my 1610 cases only longer, which is just what I need. The young man we have assist us should be able to handle the case. He would prefer that rather than hauling so many single cases.
I really appreciate your input and suggestion to search the archives.

they also make a denser pick and pluck foam that I saw an audio Guy with a couple of weeks ago, it looked like it would hold up much better, although I am not horribly sure about the shock issues with it. it was basically a harder version of foam more plasticy in nature if that makes any sense

I use the 1610 with divided set which holds the A1, a Nikon D80 (with 2 lenses), 2 batteries and 5 tapes!! I bought this one because it is FAA approved as a carryon!!!!

Are you sure that the 1610 is FAA legal?
It says on the Pelican website that the 1510 is FAA legal and not the 1610?

Wow, it qualifies as carry-on? That's cool. I actually have two of the 1610 and really like them. I did end up getting the 1650 for the three A1 cameras and like it really well with the exception of the foam. It is much weaker than the foam I got in my 1610 cases. I will have to look into the more ridgid foam.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I haven't had too many issues with my pluck foam, but the key with it is to not get it too thin between items.
