Canon XL2 or HDV Can't Post

Hi guys i am going for an upgrade in equipment, finally, now i have a few shillings.
I have been reading with interest the HDV forum recently and i have almost been converted to the sony hdv or whatever, against what i originally dismissed as a long time off, and was dead set on a new Xl2.
I've got a mac and Final cut studio, but up until i was reading this forum i decided HD was a long way off and was pointless for my business,(wedding videography) and so therefore was getting ready to purchase a canon XL2.
Now i am not so sure. I wont be looking to upgrade again for a long while, and like the sound and selling point of Hi def weddings. I have read the arguments for and against, In terms of consumer demand. can anyone tell me which wins in picture quality and comfort in sd dv?
And if i could get away with an FX1E with a (beach tek) for the Xlr's and where in england can i purchase this?
