Does this make sense Can't Post

Hello,
I am working on a solution for a friend that owns a high end home construction business(2-8 million dollar places). He has a new show room that he wants to set up to show customers ideas, things they have built, etc.

I would like to propose:
- I shoot his buildings/past work in HDV
- I edit together a series of Quick time H.264 files for him to show(one on cabinetry, one on decks and porches)
- They would put these files on a new Core Dual Apple Mini and connect that to a plasma tv capable of showing high definition.

All this seems to make sense from a work flow and capability stand point. I just need some other people to see the idea and picj it apart. Would this create the great picture and optimum picture that I think that it will? Is there a better solution?

Thanks,
Eric

It looks like a good solution. You aren't limited to a mac mini, and dual core isn't necessary to play back the movies. I run 720p HD clips (movie trailers) from my wimpy 1.5ghz pentium laptop all of the time. Delivering in h.264 sounds good, especially for this type of setting. You could just loop it.

Technically even the latest and fastest Mac Mini isn't quite up to the specifications Apple lists for playing 720p H.264 files reliably, but people who have tried it report that it seems to work fine. You could also try playing the edited video in HDV format without transcoding to H.264, since there's no need to compress them that much unless you're trying to fit them on a DVD.

Thanks for the info so far.

How about Cameras - looks like the least expensive route is the HC1 or HC3 from Sony(I have a Sony VX2100 currently). Is it worth it to try and get a FX1, would it improve image quality to justify the doubling in price between HC3 and FX1?

Anyone have any TV recommendations?

Thanks,
Eric

Yes, I just got an HC1 as a backup to my FX1, and the image quality is visibly lower quality. Get yourself an FX1 first, and then if you need a second camera you can think about an HC1.
