External light for HDR-HC1 makes for nice stable shooting Can't Post

I bought a 20w light for the HDR-HC1, and it mounts via external arm fastened underneath. The light is right on the outer edge of the LCD screen when open.

I brought my light with me this weekend when I was filming (the first filming session of my next unicycle movie!) and I kept the light on it, even during the day because it made for such a nice mobile stablizing platform.

I also had a wide angle lense on it, so all together was a relatively hefty package.

I was able to swing it around very freely, and keep it very steady while riding or brisk walking over rocky, technical trails.

No steadicam, I'm sure, but it made for super steady 'no set up time' shots

wow you guys are really skilled! When I think of trying to get on one of those.....all I can think is ouch!

But yea having an external light set up w/ the HC1 and an external arm does make for a nice stable shot. Heavier but it also gives you another piece to hold on to.

Cool video!

Cool video!

Thanks! While I have not yet viewed any of my HDV footage yet, I can tell you that what I have noticed so far with this camera as far as clarity goes...TWNR was filmed in miniDV. The spokes in the close up shots were displayed as only lines. I never really thought much about it until looking at the wheel shots from this HDV camera, you clearly pick out that they are cylinder in shape. Silloutted riders in the sunset turned out very nice as well.

I like it jsut fine, i had a Raynox 0.3 on my last camera and was happy with it so I got this one. It says it's for use with HD cameras, although I'm not sure why that would be different.

The 0.3 gives you the wide angle you are hoping for, but allows you to keep it on for the majority of your shots

It sure makes for a front heavy camera though! (i have the second largest battery)

Brian,

Outstanding job on that video, you had me glued the whole time. Great shot selection, framing and editing. Can't say I'll ever attempt that stuff (I guess I'm getting too old Frown), but it sure was fun to watch.

Thanks for sharing.

Brian,

Can you tell me how much length the Raynox .3 adds to your camera when mounted? I have 1 1/2" room in my dive housing for a w/a lens plus a red filter :( Thanks!
