HD delivery on DVD tutorial Can't Post

For those interested in experimenting with HD delivery in the AVC codec, AND are using Vegas or Premiere to edit, we've just finished a new tutorial that articulates how to do it. Part 1 is up, part 2 coming soon.
Playable on some settop players, or in Nero's Showtime player. Immensely superior to WMV.

Do you think this might become available for Canopus Edius?

I've not installed the latest Edius, but I don't think the system can frameserve to anything at this time, and that's necessary for someone to write a plug to let it happen. It might be that you could use the Premiere access to do this, but I don't think so. I'll likely install Edius over the weekend and see what happens.

DSE: can you describe in what ways the footage from this solution looks better than WMV, in both technical and layman's terms? Also, what options are available for playing back this footage on current PCs, and what hardware is needed to do that reliably?

Regarding playback on a PC, you just need the Nero Showtime playback system, or the Windows Media Player and Nero Ultra. I keep hearing rumblings that Nero will have something new very soon on the playback side as well.
AVC is substantially sharper than is WMV, WMV has a tendency to soften lines. This is why we've been looking for other delivery mechanisms for now. Not only that, but it's nice to have an alternative to Windows Media.
Because the stream is so small, virtually any PC with Win2K or XP can play it back, and if you are a Mac user and want to play with H264, you can make it work after some experimentation. When the new QT launches, it will play back just fine. If you can make it to NAB, we'll have a settop player there playing DVDs encoded with Recode as well.
