Sony DVM63HD,, the recommended tape for the camera. It is pricey. The next wedding I will be reusing previously used tapes.

Which HDV cam are you using for weddings? How is it doing in low light?

I have 2 FX1s and 1 Z1. Low light performance for me has not been a problem and i have shot in some very low light venues. I use a Sony 10/20 light and its great. Even without the light you can bump up the gain a bit and have very nice performance.

Are you only doing HDV now? How much more are you charging for HDV compared to DV?

I am only doing HDV now. My prices have increased but not solely because I am shooting HDV. No one really cares that I am shooting high definition. The biggest comment I think I ever recieved was, Oh really! No one has ever asked for it. I offer a package called a High Definition package that includes a player, have never sold it. My prices are increasing because my product has improved and part of that is because I am shooting with the HDV cameras.

Are you down-rezzing from the camera to edit in DV or are you editing HDV?
I'm just starting out doing weddings and I'm using a friends Canon GL2 (2 of them) and I don't like the low light capablity and I'm trying to come up with money to get (2) VX2100 and then maybe next year get into HDV.

Which program are you using to edit HDV...? I'm using Avid, but no HDV until later in the year.

I use Edius 3.31 as my NLE. I have a turnkey system I bought from Guy Graphics which is the bare minimum of HDV editing machines. It has dual 3.0ghz Xeon Procs with Hyperthreading, 3gb ram, 2x200 SATA Raid 0 video drives and 2 removable 250gb Western Digital Drives. I have an nvidea 128mb video card, cant remember the model number off the top of my head. I use a Dell 17" HDTV LCD monitor as my video monitor along with the LG flat panel that came with the machine.

Hi. I previously posted this information about tapes,
http://www.videouniversity.com/...M63HD_tapes_P172906/
Scroll down to May 5, 2005.

I definitely noticed better performance from the Maxell DVM60SE, compared to Panasonic AY-DVM83PQ.
This upcoming season I will be shooting HD on the Maxell tape, so will have some conclusion on quality
in about Apr 2006.
It would be nice if others are able to post data based on a quantity of tapes shot.
