PS3, USB EXTERNAL DRIVES & FAT32 Can't Post

I everyone,

I just wanted to share with you all my experience with my PS3 and my external hard drive issue I had recently.

I had purchased a external portable hard drive -60gig that I was going to use to put HD footage files on the play through the PS3. When I first purchased the drive it worked perfectly and then all of a sudden it was saying it was full when it wasn't showing it was full. I couldn't fix the problem so I reformatted the drive. When I tried to reload some HD FOOTAGE on the usb to play through the PS3 it would not show up at all.. I could not read any of the files on the external drive.

Apparently the PS3 needs the external drives to be in the FAT32 format and not that latest format n....(can't remember what it is called).

Anyway.... to make a long story short... as soon as I was able to change the drive back to using FAT32 it played the HD files fine. I had to use a program called "Partition Magic" and this allowed me to convert the drive to FAT32.. The only problem is you can only have 32gig in FAT32 at a time I think without partitioning the drive.

Just thought I would share this info

Cathy

Thanks for sharing!

What Editing Software are you using and what kind of files are you creating to Play on the PS3?

I almost went with a PS3 for the reason of showing HD work off of a hard drive, but went with the Xbox 360 cause the games selection is so much better. But with Blu Ray looking in position to win the Format Wars I may get a PS3 soon.

Hi,
I used Avid Liquid 7.2 (Previously known as Pinnacle Liquid).

I just output a HD MPEG2 1080ix1920 file and then drop that on the external usb drive OR if you have no more than 20mins you can burn this file onto a DVD (Make data dvd in nero) and it will also play in HD on a ps3.

An Xbox 360 should be able to play WMV-HD files from a standard DVD and possibly from external devices, but I think the Xbox has rather limited input connections. The PS3 works great for playing HD or SD content from any FAT32-formatted device and can also play digital photos directly from your still camera memory cards, and play MP3s. For demo purposes the PS3 is a great tool, and if you happen to find a few games for it you like so much the better.
